For those of you scratching your head, Eucalyptus is an open-source software infrastructure for implementing “cloud computing” on clusters. The current interface to eucalyptus is compatible with Amazon’s EC2 interface, but the infrastructure is designed to support multiple client-side interfaces. Eucalyptus is implemented using commonly available Linux tools and basic Web-service technologies making it easy to install and maintain.
And this is the announcement that I’ve been eagerly awaiting. After stumbling across eucalyptus, I’ve been looking for a quick and easy way to get it up and running. Now that it’s been packaged for Ubuntu 9.04, I think it’s time.
I’ll be testing and looking at this over the next few weeks, I’d love to offer this sort of service from XenKibbutz (when 9.04 is released stable of course).
